Business leader to lecture at Power of the Arts event

YOUNGSTOWN

David Craig Starkey, founder and general and artistic director of Asheville Lyric Opera in Asheville, N.C., will be the guest speaker at the next Art Means Business program March 26.

The event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the McDonough Museum of Art, 525 Wick Ave., on the Youngstown State University campus. Admission is free, but registration is required at powerofthearts.com.

The event will begin with a 30-minute networking session, with Starkey’s lecture and a question-and-answer session starting at 6 p.m.

Starkey is a Youngstown native and a YSU graduate. He will share his story of transitioning from a professional opera singer and director to a business leader as president of Asheville’s Arts Council, general counsel of the Buncombe County Arts Alliance and founding member of CEOs for Cities.

The Art Means Business series is sponsored by Power of the Arts, a Mahoning Valley organization. The quarterly programs are designed specifically for artists and arts organization board members, managers and volunteers to provide information, spotlight resources and professionalize the arts.

Swizzle Stick Day at chocolate factory

FARRELL, PA.

Daffin’s Candies’ annual open house and Swizzle Stick Day will be Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Daffin’s chocolate factory, 7 Spearman Ave.

The free factory tour, which draws thousands of people, includes free chocolate samples. Guests will see huge, solid chocolate rabbits, the Easter bunny, fun characters and more. A free shuttle will run from the parking lot at Sharon City Centre in downtown Sharon.

‘Vincent’ rescheduled for next weekend

YOUNGSTOWN

“Vincent,” the play chronicling the life of artist Vincent van Gogh, has been rescheduled for March 28 at 8 p.m., and March 29 at 2 p.m. at Music at Madison, inside Dorian Books, 802 Elm St. The one-man play starring Rodd Coonce, originally scheduled for March 6-8, had to be postponed due to a boiler malfunction in the building.
