City pair arrested after gun found in car

YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested two people about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle after a gun was found in a car during a traffic stop on the East Side.

Reports said police stopped a car driven by Michael Nakley, 25, at Oak and Fruit streets after it was clocked by radar speeding on the Madison Avenue Expressway.

Reports said Nakley was acting nervous and a records check showed he has a suspension on his driver's license. A passenger in the car, Joyce Fox, 18, had a baby with her, reports said.

Reports said the two were taken out of the car and a police dog was brought in to sniff around the car. The car detected a scent and in the center console, where officers found a handgun, reports said.

As police went to arrest Nakley, reports said Fox claimed the gun was hers, so both were taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Reports said Nakley's mother picked up the child. Reports did not say how old the child is.
