Campbell man arrested on rape charges

Staff report

CAMPBELL

Michael Claytor, 61, of Campbell was arrested Tuesday on two first-degree felony charges of rape, and a third-degree felony charge of sexual battery.

Claytor is accused of raping a 29-year-old woman on Nov. 22, 2014. The victim reported the incident to police the next day.

The report states the victim was walking home when she met a “friend,” whose name she did not know, who invited her to come over to his home, 280 Jackson St., to watch a football game.

After watching the game, the friend threatened to kill her and her family if she did not have sex with him. The victim saw a folding knife opened on the table near him. The victim said she refused three times, which the suspect disregarded before he proceeded to have unprotected sex with her.

The victim was transported to the hospital to conduct a rape kit. She described the suspect as a black male between the age of 40 and 60 with some facial hair, brown eyes, and short hair. Police spoke with Claytor and another resident who were at the home on Jackson Street the next day.

Sgt. Kevin Sferra said Claytor was indicted last week, and that U.S. marshals made the arrest. Claytor is in the Mahoning County jail, and will be arraigned in court Tuesday.
