Robotics teams from seven Mahoning Valley high schools to compete

YOUNGSTOWN

Robotics teams from seven Mahoning Valley high schools will be competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition Buckeye Regional March 27 and March 28 in Cleveland.

Austintown Fitch, Canfield, Cardinal Mooney, Champion, Girard, Hubbard and Warren G. Harding high schools all will compete. The teams were given the game specifications during a worldwide broadcast Jan. 3 after which they designed, prototyped and built a 120-pound robot that had to be ready for competition Feb. 17.

The teams will be competing in the competition called RECYCLE RUSH. The game is a recycling-themed game played by two alliances of three robots each. Robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers and properly disposing of pool noodles, representing litter. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all game pieces used are reusable or recyclable by teams in their home locations or by FIRST at the end of the season.
