NEWTON FALLS

Garry J. Greathouse, 52, of Warren-Ravenna Road in Braceville Township, was arraigned Tuesday morning on charges accusing him of hitting his neighbor with an ax handle during an argument at 3 p.m. Monday.

Deputies with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office were called to the home of a 65-year-old neighbor of Greathouse’s, and were advised that Greathouse hit the neighbor between four and eight times in the face and head with the ax handle. The victim refused medical treatment.

A witness said the incident began with arguing about the property line, which is an ongoing dispute.

Greathouse had gone to work in Warren by the time deputies arrived, so they went to the factory where he works and arrested him.

Judge Philip Vigorito of Newton Falls Municipal Court set bond at $25,000 for Greathouse. He pleaded not guilty to the criminal trespass; no plea was required on the felonious assault charge.

If convicted, Greathouse could get 10 years in prison.
