Charity sentenced to six years in prison for 2009 homicide

YOUNGSTOWN

A man was sentenced to six years in prison for a 2009 homicide today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Earl Charity, 28, was sentenced by Judge Shirley J Christian for the Oct 4, 2009 killing of Darrick Hall, 23.

Charity had pleaded guilty Feb. 3 to a charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Another man pleaded guilty to charges relating to Hall's death on 2012 and is serving a six year sentence.

The case was dismissed by former Judge James Evans in 2012 because he ruled Charity's speedy trial rights were violated. Prosecutors appealed that ruling and won the appeal, which allowed the charge to be reinstated.
