Campbell officer demoted and suspended

CAMPBELL — A city police officer voluntarily demoted himself in light of two ongoing investigations into his work conduct, according to a news release today from the Campbell Police Department.

Officer John Rusnak appeared at a disciplinary conference Friday.

The disposition of that conference was a voluntary demotion by Rusnak from the rank of lieutenant to patrolman. He will serve a 30-day suspension and will be under a two-year “last-chance” agreement.

The agencies investigating Rusnak’s conduct are the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Mahoning County Sheriff Office’s Internal Affairs Division.

The files into the circumstances that led to Rusnak’s voluntary discipline will be made available upon completion of both agencies investigations, police officials said.

Rusnak has served in the department for 17 years.
