ISIS is inhumane and savage

ISIS is inhumane and savage

I’ve heard it said, “To live in a world without love and peace, is to live in the bowels of hell.”

The evil, inhumane, and savage treatment shown to others by ISIS proves this to be true.

Obviously the minds of ISIS are poisoned, with hearts of stone instead of love, and souls diseased by evil.

I can’t think of a better time for all God loving countries and seekers of peace to come together and eliminate this evil.

Sadly, there are still people who haven’t learned that God creates all people, and we are all His children, created to live in peaceful harmony.

While a perfect world may not be possible, being occupied by imperfect people, peace can be attained by those with minds that reason and seek peace, instead of the destruction of lives.

Our dogs thank you, as well

On behalf of all dog-walk- ers, I would like to thank those thoughtful, kind, and generous people who take the trouble to clear the snow off their sidewalks.

It is so hard to walk my two little dogs in the street: there is ice, dirty slush, water, and cars that splash us with everything, especially when they hit a pothole. Not many people bother to clear their sidewalks, so I want those kind souls who do to know we appreciate their effort.

Ohio’s judges deserve a pay raise because they do important work

I want to share a few thoughts about why Ohioans should care about who sits on the bench in our courts, and why our judges, at long last, deserve a pay raise.

The work of our judges affects nearly every facet of our lives. Judges hear cases about adoption and divorce. They help us sort through the affairs of our loved ones following a death. They resolve business matters from acquisitions to contract disputes. They work with certain drug offenders in diversion programs, and ensure that veterans facing legal matters are handled respectfully. They oversee criminal proceedings where a person’s liberty is at stake.

We are fortunate to have a strong judiciary here in Ohio. Our judges have chosen this path of public service, even when their financial future might be brighter in private or corporate practice.

I want to see that our judiciary remains strong, comprised of the brightest legal minds. That goal is at risk as Ohio ranks near the bottom nationally in its judicial compensation. Ohio Gov. John Kasich has proposed a judicial compensation package in his latest budget. Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor has expressed her strong support for adequate judicial compensation. These judicial pay increases would be the first since 2008.

I am president of the professional association that represents some 25,000 lawyers. The Ohio State Bar Association has long stood in favor of appropriate compensation for Ohio’s judges. The time is right to adjust judicial compensation to ensure that our judiciary continues to attract well-qualified public servants dedicated to providing justice for all.
