City man arrested after burglary report

YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a man late Monday evening on an East Side street after reports of a burglary in process.

Reports said officers answering the call at about 11:45 p.m. In the 1000 block of McHenry Street found a man matching the description of the person breaking into a home, Tyrell Surles, 27, running away on Lansing Street and he was stopped.

Reports said officers saw Surles throw away a garbage bag and a pair of work gloves. Police checked a home that neighbors said was broken into and found footprints on the door and the door frame cracked, but no entry was gained.

Neighbors told police they have been watching the house since the homeowner died and they have never seen any damage until Monday evening.

Surles was taken to the Mahoning County jail for breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools.
