YOUNGSTOWN

Three people were arraigned Monday on felony drug charges in municipal court.

Judge Robert Milich gave John Siwecjky, 47, of Hyatt Avenue in Campbell, a bond of $11,500 on charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug-abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Reports said Siwecjky was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Sunday after police were called for an accident at High and Edwards streets on the South Side.

A man there told officers he was westbound at the red light on High Street when a car driven by Siwecjky trying to turn onto High Street cut the corner too close and collided head-on with his car.

The man’s wife complained of head pain and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, reports said.

Siwecjky was nervous and refused any treatment, but he did accept an invitation to sit in a cruiser to stay out of the cold.

When an officer asked if he had anything illegal in his possession, however, he told police he had a syringe, and police found two syringes in his sock.

Siwecjky also had a dose of suspected heroin on him, reports said.

Reports said he told officers he had just brought the heroin from a home on Hawthorne Street.

He was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Arraigned on a charge of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia was Joseph Duarte III, 31, of South Maryland Avenue.

Reports said police were called to his West Side home about 5:35 p.m. Friday by his parents, who told officers Duarte had just gotten out of prison and stole their checks.

Reports said officers went upstairs and Duarte told them he did take the checks but they were downstairs.

When he went downstairs with police, he tried to run out the back door but was grabbed and taken back inside.

Reports said police found three bags of suspected crack cocaine and a crack pipe on Duarte when they searched him.

He also was taken to the jail and given a bond of $10,000.

Arraigned on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of drugs and possession of marijuana and a warrant from 2013, was Brittney Taylor, 24, of West Boston Avenue.

Reports said officers tried to pull her over just before 9 a.m. Friday for an improper turn at South and Williamson avenues on the South Side.

She ignored lights and sirens from a cruiser for several minutes before pulling over.

She gave police a false name, and her real name wasn’t known until she was booked into the jail, reports said.

Police found a bag of suspected marijuana on her as well as eight and a half pills and $314 in cash, reports said.

Her bond was set at $20,000.
