JFK hurdler Zallow takes 2nd at nationals
NEW YORK
Warren JFK senior Chad Zallow finished second in the 60-meter hurdles at Sunday’s New Balance Indoor Nationals at The Armory.
Zallow and Grassfield (Va.) junior Grant Holloway each finished in 7.59, but a photo finish determined that Holloway won by four-thousandths of a second, 7.585 to 7.589. Both were track records.
Zallow is a Youngstown State recruit.
YSU baseball falters in loss to Milwaukee
WESTFIELD, IND.
The Youngstown State baseball team built a 6-2 lead against Milwaukee after seven innings, but the Panthers scored the final seven runs with four in the eighth and three in the 11th for a 9-6 victory in the series finale at Grand Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
YSU (3-7 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League) scored runs in the second, third fifth and seventh innings to build a four-run advantage. But the Panthers (10-4 and 2-1) plated four to tie the game in the eighth and Sam Koenig’s two-out three-run home run in the top of the 11th proved to be the difference.
Starter Kevin Yarabinec pitched a strong 62/3 innings allowing just two unearned runs while scattering seven hits, striking out three with no walks.
Kennedy Catholic to play Farrell at YSU

Kennedy Catholic will play Farrell in the Class A boys basketball state semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Youngstown State’s Beeghly Center.
YSU has not hosted a high school basketball game since 2002, when Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and LeBron James lost to George Junior Republic.
NABF baseball honors four area players

The National Amateur Baseball Federation chose four Mahoning Valley players for its preseason All-America team.
Austintown Fitch junior Jared Kapturasky, an outfielder and pitcher, and Poland junior Jared Burkert, a pitcher, were named to the second team. Earning honorabl mention were Boardman junior Lou Cardona, a catcher, and Canfield sophomore Chris Lewis, a first baseman.
Throws clinic set for March 29
YOUNGSTOWN
The Greater Youngstown Track Officials Association is hosting a throws clinic at the Youngstown State University WATTS on March 29th from 2-4 p.m. This clinic is open to all OHSAA officials as well as coaches and will count as a local rules interpretation credit.
Parking will be available in the M5 Parking Lot, directly behind the WATTS.

OSU’s Miller to visit Alliance
Alliance
Ohio State football player Steve Miller will be available for autographs on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Sports Card and Collectibles Show at the Carnation City Mall. Cost is $10 per autograph.
Show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday from noon-5 p.m.
Miller, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive lineman from Canton McKinley, lettered all four years at Ohio State. He returned an interception for a touchdown in the Sugar Bowl in the 42-35 victory over Alabama.

Bengals reunite with DE Johnson
CINCINNATI
The Bengals agreed to a four-deal deal with end Michael Johnson, bringing back a player who was a key part of their defense.
Johnson left as a free agent and played last season with Tampa Bay, which released him last week. He immediately became a priority for Cincinnati, which made upgrading the defensive line one of its top goals during the offseason.
