YSU business honorary inducts 53 students

Fifty-three students in Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration have been inducted into the YSU chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the world’s premier business honor society.

Students were inducted at a campus ceremony. Beta Gamma Sigma is reserved exclusively for students attending business schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

While nearly 350,000 students receive bachelor’s or master’s degrees in business each year, only about 25,000 are inducted into a lifetime membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. To be eligible, students must rank in the top 10 percent of the sophomore, junior or senior classes or the top 20 percent of the master’s program.

The Williamson College of Business Administration has inducted 647 students.

YSU BGS also elected a slate of officers: Anthony Alfano, president; Caroline Standohar, vice president of programming; Jerald Dugan, vice president of membership/PR; Sophia Martini, vice president of alumni relations; and Brad Smith, vice president of finance.

WCBA Dean Betty Jo Licata, who for many years was a member of the BGS Board of Governors, is board chairwoman.

YSU Beta Gamma Sigma has been recognized as a Premier Chapter for its superior level of membership acceptance. With Premier Chapter status, YSU BGS awarded a $1,000 Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship to Thomas Lyden of Boardman for the 2014-15 academic year. William Vendemia of Youngstown is the chapter adviser, and Anthony Kos of Transfer, Pa., is co-adviser.
