Flooding blocks roads, brings woman to tears

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has blocked part of state Route 165 near New Springfield, just east of Route 62, due to flooding.

Officials say water moving across the roadway makes it dangerous to travel.

The recent heavy rain coupled with masses of melting snow are causing flooding in other areas in the Valley.

Residents on Clingan Road in Youngstown told 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, they’re tired and fed up. The neighborhood is surrounded by East Branch Crab Creek, which runs to McKelvey Lake.

Residents Robert Washington and Robin Keels said they woke up to find water rushing into their basements faster than a high-powered sump pump could remove.

Keels, who is on Social Security, told the TV station she already replaced three other furnaces and hot-water tanks. “It’s too much,” she said, through tears. She pleaded for help, noting that neither the city nor any elected official has offered any to date.

On Miltonia Avenue, a section of the road has washed away, and there is water coming up from under the ground.
