Spring pledge drive

Living Bread Radio Network, Catholic Radio AM 1060 and 89.5 FM, will conduct its spring pledge drive from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 24-26 on the theme, “Giving Thanks.”

Living Bread Radio is a local, independent Catholic radio apostolate broadcasting to the Catholic community of Northeast Ohio.

The station’s programming includes popular programs from national Catholic networks such as Ave Maria Radio and EWTN, and an increasing number of locally-produced shows and specials. Living Bread Radio’s general manager is Barbara Gaskell.

ACTION clergy

YOUNGSTOWN

ACTION will have a clergy caucus breakfast from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Church of God in Christ, 3147 Glenwood Ave., with elder Ross Johnson as host pastor.

Speaker will be Bishop George Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, who was named by Gov. John Kasich to the new Ohio Task Force on Community-Police Relations.

ACTION is the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing our Neighborhoods.

Night of praise

New Beginnings Outreach Ministries, 2007 S. Schenley Ave., which is nondenominational, will host a multicultural night of praise at 6 p.m. today.

Antonio y Joel con Labranza is a Spanish Gospel group from Delaware. These recording artists will present a free concert with a 12-piece salsa band.

Local churches participating include Templo Fuente de Gracia and Hispana Evangelical and Cristianos Unidos.

Melvin D. Trent is host pastor.

Bishop’s decree

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown has issued a decree formally approving and establishing the Missionary Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi as a Private Association of the Faithful with the intention of developing as a Public Association of the Faithful and eventually a diocesan religious institute of sisters.

The primary apostolate of the association is teaching, particularly assisting parents who home school in the faith formation, spirituality and education of their children.

The sisters staff St. Joseph the Protector Learning Center at Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, 291 Scoville Drive, Vienna.

The center offers a blended learning environment with some classes taught on site while others are offered online.

Bishop Murry will perform a liturgical ceremony at which he will read the decree and clothe the foundress of the Missionary Sisters of St. Francis with the religious habit of a novice.

The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, the solemnity of St. Joseph, at 3 p.m. at Queen of the Rosary Parish.

The Rev. Melvin D. Brown will mark his 10th anniversary Sunday at Gospel Temple Baptist Church, 279 Whipple Ave.

Services are planned at 11 a.m. with speaker, the Rev. Derwood Lockett of Akron, and at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Martin of Akron.

Guest speaker will be the Rev. Linda Taylor of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church in New Castle, Pa.

NOW Creations will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a program from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 29 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church center, 4500 Norquest Blvd.

Featured will be Maureen Collins, performing artist, who will present a musical segment; Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, on mindfulness; and primordial sound meditation on meditation.

Vince Lisi, who formed NOW Creations with leader Bob Cene Jr., will speak on the future.
