GIRLS BASKETBALL Today’s game


Who: West Branch Warriors (26-1) vs. Geneva Eagles (19-7).

What: Division II regional final.

When: 2 p.m., today.

Where: Barberton High School.

How West Branch got here: Winners of the Austintown District, defeating Niles, 76-26, Hubbard, 91-25, Southeast, 64-52, and Mogadore Field, 55-29. In the regional semifinal, they knocked off previously unbeaten Chagrin Falls 36-29.

How Geneva got here: Winners of the Orwell District, defeating Notre Dame-Catholic Latin, 46-25, Glenville, 44-41, and Jefferson, 37-29. In the regional semifinal, they beat Padua Franciscan 51-41.

Scouting the Warriors: Finished the regular season 21-1 with a 14-0 record in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference. They’re ranked No. 5 in the state in the latest AP girls basketball poll. It’s their second consecutive regional final appearance, falling to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary last year. The Warriors start four seniors and a junior, led by point guard Melinda Trimmer. The senior had 25 points in the semifinals to go along with a pair of assists. Pavin Heath is a 3-point threat, while Kaylee Manning is very active on both ends of the floor. Forwards Lea Bock and Erica Johnson control the paint for West Branch.

Scouting the Eagles: Finished the regular season 15-7 with a 9-3 record in the Premier Athletic Conference. It will be the first regional final appearance in school history, after losing to SV-SM in the semifinals last year. The Eagles start one senior, two juniors and two freshmen. They’re led by guard Lindsey Mayle, who scored 30 points in the semifinals. Senior forward Sarah Juncker averaged double-figure points in the regular season for Geneva.
