The Boardman High School girls bowling team placed 14th out of 16 teams at the Division I bowling state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus.

As a team the Spartans dropped a total of 2,824 pins in the qualifying round.

“Overall, I thought we did pretty good but we could have bowled better and we’ve done so in the past,” said Boardman head coach Justine Cullen.

The Spartans were 346 pins away from advancing to the championship round.

The top eight teams advanced.

Alexis Grim bowled 189-213-170 games for a 572 series. Grim finished in 15th place among individuals.

Gloria Hynes rolled 177-206-165 games for a 548 series and placed 27th.

“I was incredibly happy with both of them, especially for Gloria,” Cullen said. “For a freshman to do that in this sort of environment was really good.”

Myranda Bukovinsky bowled a 425 series. Lexi Chismar (390) and Breanna Kereluik (385) also competed for the Spartans.

“For having only five girls on the whole team getting here was exceptional,” Cullen said. “I’m beyond proud of them.”

Tori Pappas from Columbus Briggs bowled a 619 series to finish first.

Wapakoneta beat Mentor 727-600 in the championship finals to win its first girls state bowling championship.
