Vallourec shutdown
Vallourec shutdown
YOUNGSTOWN
The shutdown for Vallourec Star, 2669 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., has come to an end. Employees are returning to work this week and next week as planned, said Jeanie Gaetano, communications and executive services manager for the facility.
The plant stopped operations for three weeks due to declining oil prices in mid-February. During that time, employees were able to schedule vacation, get paid time off or file for unemployment.
“We will continue to monitor and adapt to the changing business conditions through the remainder of the year,” Gaetano said.
Competition at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN
A group of the region’s top construction professionals will be at Youngstown State University for the sixth annual Builders Association Construction Estimating Competition next Friday.
For months, contractors and businessmen worked with YSU civil and construction engineering technology students to help the students build project-estimating skills.
Three teams of seven students each will be tasked with preparing a construction bid just as they would if they were working in the field. The project will be an actual job that was awarded to, and built by, a member of the builders association.
The competition will be in Moser Hall, room 2400. The event will last from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. when the winners are announced.
