Poland North Elementary brought out fathers and daughters on the evening of March 5 for a night of food, entertainment, crafts and fun.

Food and beverages were served to fathers and their daughters followed by a show from a group of young irish step-dancers. After the performance was complete, students and their guests were broken up to go to stations to decorate cookies, take pictures at a photobooth, learn to step-dance and make hand-print crafts.

Jolene Ihnat, the Parent-Teacher Organization vice president, with the help of many other volunteers hosted the event.

“We do this once per year, rotating every year,” Ihnat said. “Last year was father-son and mother daughter, and this is father-daughter and mother-son we have coming up in a few weeks.”

Ihnat said she was quite pleased with the big turnout, gesturing around the packed gymnasium. Most people were wearing green, a theme suggested in light of the upcoming holiday — St. Patrick’s Day.

“Almost every single girl is here with their father or whoever they brought with them,” Ihnat said.

Elvera Cole, PTO treasurer, helped regulate stations, ensuring everyone got to take part in all the activities available.

“The kids just love coming and being able to run around their school like this,” Cole said.

Stephanie Manteja, the principal of Poland North Elementary School, said she enjoyed seeing so many students in attendance. This was Manteja’s second year as principal and first year seeing Father Daughter Night due to the rotation every year.

“It’s nice to see kids come with their parents to events like this,” Manteja said.
