Hilltop Elementary School students celebrated Valentine’s Day by passing out valentines to their classmates, playing games and making crafts during their annual classroom parties Feb. 12.
Each class had a party in their classrooms, coordinated by PTO volunteers, during which students played games, made crafts, enjoyed a snack and exchanged the all-important valentines.
Students brought in hand-decorated Valentine bags and boxes, such as a Canfield locker, decorated ‘cakes,’ sports-themed boxes and a Lego decorated box, to collect valentines and treats from their classmates.
Students played special Valentine-themed games, including a relay race to fill a cup with heart-shaped candies, throwing marshmallows through a heart cut-out, picking up heart-shaped candies with chopsticks while being timed, Cupid’s arrow and pin the heart on the heart.
Many students, staff and PTO volunteers also got into the spirit of the holiday and celebrated it by wearing their Valentine best, including red, pink and white shirts and special Valentine-themed clothes, as well as accessories, such as heart headbands and hair bows.
The school’s PTO provided snacks and drinks for the parties.
