2nd suspect pleads not guilty in slayings of elderly Ohio couple
COSHOCTON, Ohio (AP) — A man indicted in the robbery, abduction and slaying of an elderly Ohio couple has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges.
Robert Clark, 29, entered the plea today in Coshocton, about 75 miles northeast of Columbus.
Clark could receive the death penalty if convicted. His 21-year-old co-defendant, who pleaded not guilty earlier this week, does not face possibility of the death penalty.
They are accused of killing Doyle Chumney, 88, and his wife, Lillian, 79. The Strasburg couple’s bodies were found inside their torched car Jan. 22, the day after they were reported missing. Authorities say they believe the Chumneys were shot by Clark before the car was set on fire.
Clark’s attorney did not return messages Friday.
