Austintown Fitch: Senior Jake Franks (35-12) is making his first trip to Columbus after finishing second at the district in the 220-pound weight class at Mentor.

“I’ve been down and watched it before but I’m sure it is a completely different thing.”

Fitch coach Brett Powell was proud of Jake’s effort all season.

“Jake stood up to everything that got put before him,” Powell said. “I honestly thing that’s one reason he was mentally and physically tough enough to make it through that district.”

Franks is excited for the trip.

“It’s going to be one of those things where you have to stay mentally focus and get ready for each match like you would any other day.”

Juniors Adam Green (36-13) and Isiah Jackson (35-15) qualifed at 152 and 170 pounds, respectfully.

Salem: Jessie Slocum (40-2) finished third at districts to qualify in the 182-pound weight class. The senior broke his ankle last season and did not wrestle until the sectional tournament.

But he is OK with getting hurt last season.

“It drove me to work harder,” Slocum said. “It really opened up my eyes. My injury didn’t hurt me like it would have some kids. It made me better I would say.” He opens up with Tre Campbell (45-6) of Wauseon.
