State Rep. O'Brien gives support of library funding Friday in Hubbard
HUBBARD — State Rep. Sean J. O’Brien of Bazetta, D-63rd, will visit the Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St., at 10:30 a.m. Friday to make a statement in support of libraries.
O’Brien will arrive in time to view the library’s Rhythm and Rhyme Preschool literacy program. Afterward, he will tour the library, observe day-to-day activities and operations, and become acquainted with how the library serves the community through services, outreach and technology.
He will make a statement regarding the positive impacts of libraries and the need for continued support of legislation to restore the state's Public Library Fund.
State funding for public libraries has been cut by more than $106 million since 2008 — a 24 percent loss in funding. Public libraries received about the same amount of state funding as they received in 1996.
