Ohio Air Force base preparing to move presidential planes

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Galleries housing dozens of presidential and historic planes will close to the public this fall as an Ohio Air Force base prepares to move them to a new hangar.

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force base near Dayton said the new $35.4 million hangar will open in 2016.

The galleries currently housing the planes will close in October so the planes can be prepared for towing, the Dayton Daily News reported.

While the planes will be out of public view for months before the move, officials say the new 224,000-square-foot hangar will allow access to thousands more visitors.

The military museum attracts more than 1 million visitors each year,
