Hubbard chief: 'If justice can be had, we're going to get it.'
HUBBARD — The investigation continues for Hubbard city police in the Cody Pitts murder case.
Pitts, 26, a 2007 Hubbard High School graduate, died from a single gunshot wound to the head on Saturday. His body was found on Orchard Street across from Downtown Coffee Cafe, the last place he was seen alive.
An autopsy ruled the death as a homicide.
Chief of Police Jim Taafe told The Vindicator today that while the department has made no arrests, justice will be served.
"We don't know that this is anything for everyone to be concerned about as far as future acts, but we also don't know that's not the case either," Taafe said. "The fact of the matter is, the investigation is ongoing. I have nothing but the utmost confidence in the detectives that are handling this case.
"Hubbard is a very close-knit community," Taafe added. "One of the things that is good and bad part about it is that everybody knows everybody. I've known [Pitts] since he was a young boy. He was a fine young man.
"This is very painful for everyone. If justice can be had, we're going to get it."
A funeral service for Pitts will be tonight at the Hubbard High School gymnasium at 7, with calling hours from 4-7 p.m.
