Some Cruze vehicles recalled

Staff report

DETROIT

General Motors recalled 2,062 Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze vehicles manufactured Feb. 4-9 of this year.

The recall was issued because of problems with the left-rear or right-rear parking-brake cable brackets.

Dealers will inspect for proper torque and, if necessary, tighten both the left- and right-rear parking-brake cable bracket bolts.

If the parking-brake bracket separates, the parking brake may not hold the vehicle, increasing the risk of a vehicle roll-away and a crash.

As of Feb. 11, GM knew of no crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition, which was discovered Feb. 9 during a plant audit. The total number of potentially affected vehicles is 2,062, of which 1,733 are in the U.S. and 329 in Canada.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the left-rear and right-rear parking-brake bracket bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin this month. Customer letters will be mailed March 24.
