Girard man faces domestic-violence charge

GIRARD — A city man faces a domestic-violence charge after police said he attacked his wife over drug money.

According to a police report, Michael R. Atwood, 27, who listed an address at a North Avenue apartment, became violent when his wife refused to give him $20 to purchase heroin.

Officers arrived at 11:08 p.m. Sunday and found the victim in the apartment building’s parking lot with her arms covered in cuts, scratches and dried blood.

Upon questioning, police said Atwood claimed an argument escalated, and his wife struck him in the face several times. He showed no signs of visible injuries, however, according to the report.

Police took Atwood to the Trumbull County Jail.
