Father of man shot in Ohio Walmart says much work needed

CINCINNATI (AP) — The father of a young man fatally shot by police in a southwest Ohio Walmart store says there is much work to do on police-community relations.

John Crawford Jr. spoke Monday night at a meeting of an Ohio task force studying the issue. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Crawford feels his son’s death demonstrates a lack of accountability and says that some officers want to shoot people.

John Crawford III, 22, was shot last August after police responded to a 911 call reporting a man waving what appeared to be a firearm at the store in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek. Police said the pellet rifle appeared to be real, and a grand jury concluded the shooting was justified.

Other speakers at the Cincinnati session pointed to progress being made.
