Cleveland's Red Shoe Robber gets 57 years in prison

CLEVELAND (AP) — A man known in Cleveland as the “Red Shoe Robber” for his choice of footwear during hold-ups has been sentenced to 57 years in prison.

Last month, a jury found Johnnie Harris, 22, guilty in a robbery spree that spanned from October 2013 to March 2014. He was sentenced Monday in Cleveland.

Prosecutors say Harris targeted convenience stores, bars, gas stations and pharmacies for his late-night robberies in Cleveland and suburbs. He became known for wearing red shoes during the robberies.

Harris was found guilty of 95 counts in 19 separate robberies. He carried a weapon and fired shots in at least seven of them.

Two people have pleaded guilty to being accomplices, and another is awaiting trial.
