YOUNGSTOWN

The Carpatho-Rusyn Society of Youngstown-Warren-Sharon will present a program, “Carpatho-Rusyn Folklore Today in Transcarpathian Ukraine,” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.

Dr. Elena Boudovskaia will discuss folklore practices and beliefs of Carpatho-Rusyns, especially in small remote villages. Many of these folk customs practiced in the natural agricultural mountain areas date from ancient pre-Christian times, but now many have meaning in a Christian context.

Find out why your Baba had certain superstitions and traditions for cooking, housekeeping and warding off evil.

Boudovskaia teaches Russian at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
