Arson destroys one South Side home and damages another

YOUNGSTOWN — Fire reports said a blaze that destroyed at a vacant home at 426 Sherwood Ave. and spread to a second home is an arson.

Crews were called to the home about 11:25 p.m. Monday and found the home engulfed. Reports said firefighters tried to protect the house next door with their ladder truck, but because of low water pressure they were unable to save a second house. Crews did, however, manage to save a third home by continually hosing it down.

Damage was listed at $3,900. There were no injuries.
