2 finalists left for University of Toledo president

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — One of the three finalists vying to become the next president at the University of Toledo has dropped out.

Christopher Howard, president of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, told Toledo officials on Monday that he’s no longer interested in the job.

The two remaining candidates are Michele Wheatly, senior adviser to the president of West Virginia University, and Sharon Gaber, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas.

Both have visited the Toledo campus for a series of public forums and meetings.

Former Toledo president Lloyd Jacobs stepped down last June after eight years as president. He left to work with a global economic development organization based in Washington.
