HUBBARD

The death of a Hubbard man whose body was found in the uptown part of the city early Saturday has been ruled a homicide, police said.

Preliminary results of an autopsy indicated that Cody Pitts, 26, died of a single gunshot wound, according to a press release issued Sunday evening.

Hubbard Detective Sgt. David Oaks said police are interviewing witnesses and that no arrests have been made in the case.

According to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ- TV, police received a call about 3:30 a.m. Saturday from a female driver who said a person was lying in the street near the Downtown Coffee Cafe on North Main Street.

Pitts already was dead when police found his body lying on the ground at Orchard Avenue. WFMJ reported that police will be looking at nearby surveillance video and contacting anyone who may have talked with Pitts.

The Trumbull County coroner and Trumbull County Homicide Task Force also continue to investigate the case.

Orchard Avenue was quiet Sunday afternoon.

A neighbor on Orchard who did not want to be identified said he did not know the victim, and that crimes of this caliber do not happen in the city.

Another neighbor who also did not want to be identified said the city is still a good place to live.
