Police: Rifle-carrying man wounded by state troopers

LYNDORA, Pa.

Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a suspect who was shot and wounded by state troopers who said he aimed a rifle at them will face attempted homicide and other charges.

Police in Butler County say they were told that a man had threatened relatives in Butler Township early Sunday with a rifle and a knife. They allege that he refused to drop the weapon and instead raised and aimed it toward the troopers about 60 yards away.

Police said one trooper fired his rifle and a second fired his sidearm, hitting the suspect in the hand or forearm. He fled but was captured and taken a Pittsburgh hospital. Police said the 24-year-old Butler man will face charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault and assault on a law enforcement officer.
