Texan arrested with sword in cane, tried to visit jailed son
SAN ANTONIO
A San Antonio man trying to visit his jailed son also landed behind bars after being caught with a combination cane and 2-foot sword.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Jose Gonzalez faces a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Sheriff’s spokesman James Keith said Wednesday that the cane, with a handle fashioned like the head of a snake, was confiscated.
Keith says the father was able to walk through a scanner last Monday without needing the cane, which went through another security device. An alarm went off. An officer twisted off the top of the cane and drew out the sword, and the father was arrested.
Jail records Wednesday did not list the father as still in custody. Details weren’t immediately available on the son’s name or charges.
Rooms are going fast at Hungary’s village for rent
BUDAPEST, Hungary
Rooms at Hungary’s village-for-rent are going fast.
More than 300 inquiries and reservations for 280 guests have been made since Mayor Kristof Pajer recently began advertising the village of Megyer, available for $760 a day.
Pajer said Thursday that tourists are coming from as far away as Australia, South Africa, Sweden and the U.S., and the village “is booked solid in August and most of April and May.”
Amenities offered by Megyer, population 18 and 120 miles southwest of Budapest, include seven guest houses that sleep 39 people, a bus stop, horses, chickens and 10 acres of farm land.
Some guests have chosen to rename the village streets during their stay, a perk which comes with a replica of the street sign.
Pair pilfer $9K worth of underwear from store
CHEYENNE, Wyo.
Police say a man and woman have stolen more than $9,000 worth of women’s undergarments from a department store in Wyoming’s capital.
Officer Dan Long, a Cheyenne police spokesman, says the shoplifters stole more than 1,000 pairs of panties from the J.C. Penney store in a mall Wednesday.
Video surveillance shows the two leaving the store with a large plastic bag.
Long says store employees did not notice the theft until several minutes after it happened, and the pair got away before police arrived.
Police estimate roughly 800 pairs of Ambrielle brand underwear and 200 pairs of Flirtitude brand garments were taken.
