2 suspects indicted in slaying of elderly Ohio couple

COSHOCTON, Ohio (AP) — Two men suspected of abducting and killing an elderly Ohio couple have been indicted on charges including aggravated murder, kidnapping and robbery.

An indictment released today charges Robert Clark, 29, with multiple counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications for using a gun. Twenty-one-year-old Jeffery Stewart’s aggravated murder charges don’t include those specifications.

They’re charged in the slayings of Doyle Chumney, 88, and his wife, Lillian, 79. The couple lived in Tuscarawas County about 20 miles south of Canton. They were reported missing Jan. 21 and their bodies were found in their badly burned car the next day.

Clark led authorities on a nationwide manhunt before his Feb. 5 arrest in Arizona.

Authorities have said both suspects have implicated themselves.
