Police are investigating a body found lying face-down on Orchard Avenue early Saturday morning. Cody Pitts, 26, of Hubbard, was found dead near North Main Street, according to a press release. The Trumbull County Homicide Task Force and coroner’s office are investigating. Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported police received a call before 3:30 a.m. from a driver who said he nearly hit a body in the street. Police found a gunshot wound, WFMJ reported. Police believe Pitts was last seen at the Downtown Coffee Cafe and patio bar on Main Street, and are gathering surveillance video from nearby businesses. No further details were available Saturday.

Create a superhero

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District invites local students in grades three to six to develop original ideas for superhero characters with environmental powers. Students should produce a drawing and paragraph or two explaining the environmental mission of the character. Submissions are due Earth Day, April 22. Maple sugar events

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will have its annual public Maple Sugaring Event at 2 p.m. March 22. The program is free and includes an indoor presentation on maple trees, a guided, outdoor walk with observation of a working evaporator and taste of maple syrup. No registration is required. Old State Farm will sell local maple products. Also, “Maple Sugaring for Schools” for first- through sixth-grade students, will take place March 17-20 with tours at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Cost is $2 per student; free for adults.
