Pa. Gov. Wolf touts budget plan for education funding

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is pressing for support for his state budget proposal, saying people across Pennsylvania have asked him for property-tax relief.

The Democratic governor appeared at an elementary school in Allentown today, The Express-Times of Easton reported.

Wolf was joined at Muhlenberg Elementary by Allentown’s mayor and state lawmakers.

The governor says the state’s economy depends on a good education system, and Pennsylvania residents have told him schools are a priority.

Wolf is proposing a spending plan that raises more than $4 billion in new taxes but also aims to reduce local school property taxes by more than $3 billion.

He wants a dramatic increase in state support of public education, cuts in business taxes and funding for sewer and water infrastructure.
