Man indicted for shooting that wounded 9-year-old girl

YOUNGSTOWN

A man indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury Thursday for a shooting in April that wounded a 9-year-old girl as she was doing her homework was arrested about  10:20 p.m. Thursday on an unrelated gun charge.

Devante Scott, 20, is in the county jail on drug and weapons after being arrested at his West Dewey Avenue home following following a traffic stop.

Police found drugs and a loaded .45-caliber handgun.

Detectives said Friday they were able to get additional evidence to get an indictment on charges of improper discharge of a firearm into a habitation and felonious assault for the shooting that wounded Kathryn Carter as she did her homework. She was hospitalized for several days.

Detectives also said Scott has a history of firearms arrests.
