Children that attended the Happy Hearts Day event at the Poland library on Feb. 11 were treated to humorous stories about love, dancing, bingo and more.

Poland librarian Vikki Peck began the event by reading “Froggy’s First Kiss” by Jonathon London, about a frog that has a crush on his classmate and who receives his first kiss from her, much to his dismay.

Peck led participants in a finger play and rhyme, during which children made hearts using their hands, and singing a song to the tune of “Bingo” that spelled out the word “heart” instead, before reading them another stories.

“Falling for Repunzel” by Leah Wilcox is a humorous retelling of the classic fairy tale, “Repunzel.” Throughout the story, the prince attempts to ask Repuzel for help getting into her tower, but due to the distance between them there are several miscommunications that have unforeseen consequences.

Peck ended the event with a game of Bingo and a craft in which children used a paper plate and colorful tissue paper or heart cutouts to make a festive Valentine’s Day wreath.
