Boardman man charged with burglary offense
BOARDMAN
A township man who was arrested earlier this week on a state warrant for a felony escape charge now is charged with a second-degree felony burglary offense.
When Calvin Shelton, 26, of Applecrest Court, appeared in Mahoning County Area Court here Thursday for other charges, police discovered he had an active warrant for burglary.
The charge stems from an incident in January, according to a police report, when Shelton reportedly broke into a relative’s Hillman Way home and took or damaged $1,800 worth of property.
Shelton was in court for arraignment on other charges stemming from the domestic violence call Tuesday when he reportedly threatened the mother of his 4-year-old child with a knife and then slashed her tires. He was charged with domestic violence, criminal damaging, theft and vandalism.
When police arrested him on those charges, they discovered he had an active warrant out of Mahoning County for an escape charge after he reportedly violated the conditions of his parole. He had been serving a 5.25-year prison sentence after he was convicted of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, firearms in a motor vehicle, and kidnapping, according to the warrant.
Shelton is in the Mahoning County jail. He is scheduled to be back in court Tuesday.
