The Austintown library hosted the monthly meeting of its Library Cookbook Club on Jan. 29, giving area foodies a chance to gather and learn more about food and cooking.

“We were looking for new book club ideas and so this was one that seemed interesting and fun, different,” Austintown library adult services librarian Lindsay Platt said. “People could come and talk about recipes, exchange ideas.”

The club has been meeting since last April but has had a tough time with attendance.

Platt said the club has several different purposes.

“We’re hoping to swap recipes and talk about different cookbooks,” she said. “I read all of the new cookbooks. I go through them, I do some of the recipes. But I haven’t really had anyone to talk about them.”

Attendees are allowed to make and bring in something for the other members to each, after signing a waiver. Each meeting has a different topic. January’s was crock pot recipes. Platt made cornbread pudding in a crock pot to sample. In December the theme was a cookie exchange.

Platt said anyone who attends the meetings can get to meet new people and perhaps even try out new foods.

“They get to meet new people and keener new recipes and ideas,” she said.
