Top Hat theater presents ‘Leap of Faith’

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Top Hat Productions will present “Leap of Faith,” the Tony Award-nominated musical, for a three-weekend run that begins Friday at Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road.

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again March 13, 14, 20 and 21. Each performance will include dessert during intermission.

“Leap of Faith” is based on the movie of the same name, which starred Steve Martin.

When the “Reverend” Jonas Nightingale’s traveling ministry breaks down in a small town, the part-time reverend and full-time con artist (Josh Noble) quickly pitches a tent and invites the locals to a revival. Marla McGowen (Brandi Johanntges), a single mom raising a son (Michael Appugliese), is also the town sheriff and determined to stop the reverend from scamming the townspeople. The reverend becomes romantically involved with the sheriff — which forces a decision over the direction of his life.

The cast also features Rachel Franek, Carla Gipson, Tae’Shawn Madison and Alleah Karon Triplett, plus an ensemble.
