POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Feb. 24

Identity fraud: A Locust Lane man discovered that as he filed his income taxes online, someone used his Social Security number on a form that already had been submitted.

Feb. 25

Identity fraud: A Via Bellagio Drive man learned that his personal information had been compromised.

Theft: An Edgewater Drive woman reported $515 stolen.

Feb. 26

Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to the arrest of 25-year-old Deangelo T. Christian of North Garland Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

BOARDMAN

Feb. 25

Arrest: Police near Route 224 took into custody 25-year-old Michael J. Mauro of Louis Avenue, Girard, who was wanted on a felony warrant from Broward County, Fla., charging grand theft.

Domestic violence: Youngstown police handed to township authorities Justin T. Clark, 25, of West Kenmore Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a felony domestic-violence charge related to a Feb. 13 situation at Southern Park Mall in which a woman alleged Clark had forcibly grabbed her neck and shoved her forward during an argument. The charge was elevated because the accuser was four months pregnant, a report stated.

Fraud: A Shields Road woman noticed two unauthorized deductions totaling $219 had been made to her debit-card account.

Stolen property: Officers took Karen C. Degenaro, 37, of Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, into custody on two counts each of misuse of a credit card and receiving stolen property, as well as on one felony count of identity theft. A Basil Avenue man recently had discovered $300 missing, a $650 fraudulent charge on his credit card and such charges totaling $1,153 on two store cards, a report said.

Identity theft: A Euclid Boulevard woman reported someone without permission opened a $3,500 account in her name to obtain a loan.

Citation: Police responded to a possible vehicular accident on Route 224 before citing 34-year-old Brian M. Best of South Heights Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Counterfeit: Two men buying a firearm at Fin, Feather and Fur, 1138 Boardman-Poland Road, reportedly passed two phony $10 bills.

Theft: A Mansfield boy, 16, faced charges of theft and obstructing official business after a $92 sweatshirt was stolen from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: Officers investigating an abandoned car in the 4900 block of Southern Boulevard took 28-year-old Brittany A. Winford into custody. Winford, of Erie Street, Boardman, was wanted on a felony warrant from Barberton charging her with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Feb. 26

Bad check: A Gertrude Avenue woman told officers she received a fraudulent $1,685 check after having posted an online ad regarding looking for a job.

Theft: A Poland woman reported her wallet stolen while at a Doral Drive store.

Drugs: Janeiro Green III, 35, who listed addresses on Nantucket Drive in Austintown and Hamrock Drive in Campbell, was charged with one felony count of drug abuse as well as operating a vehicle impaired and obstructing official business, both misdemeanors, after having been pulled over on Ferncliff Avenue. Green, who authorities said refused to provide a required DNA sample because of the felony charge, had a bag of a powder that tested positive for cocaine, and his blood-alcohol count was 0.129, a report showed. The intoxication limit in Ohio is 0.08.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 1900 block of Wolosyn Circle, from which an estimated $2,900 in jewelry and cash was taken.

Breaking and entering: Someone at Southern Park Mall broke into a vending machine and removed about $1,000 worth of items.

Burglary: Someone entered a residence in the 4400 block of Tippecanoe Road through the garage, then stole a 22-inch TV, a laptop computer, jewelry and a credit card. The loss came to $1,450.

Feb. 27

Arrest: Deanna P. Bland, 26, was charged with obstructing official business after police pulled her over on Market Street. Bland, of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, provided a false name and was wanted on an Austintown warrant, officers said.

Identity theft: An Oregon Trail woman reported having gotten a letter from the Internal Revenue Service stating the agency received her 2014 income-tax return, even though she had never filed one.

Assault: A Poland man told authorities that as he drove on Route 224, another motorist cut him off, then tossed a pair of pliers after the accuser had rolled down his window, striking his left cheek.

Identity fraud: A Paxton Road woman learned that her identity had been used to file a 2014 state income-tax return.

Theft: Authorities charged Khayla A. Durah, 19, and Aleia A. Durah, 21, both of University Place, Youngstown, in the theft of $250 worth of merchandise, including a pair of pants, from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Counterfeit: A fake $20 bill was discovered at Subway, 5205 Market St.

Identity theft: A Creston Drive couple reported that while trying to file their 2014 income-tax return online, their identities had been used to file and submit another form.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Sheridan Road resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Susan R. Reynolds of Lisbon Road, Canfield, on two counts each of possession of drug paraphernalia and drug possession and one each of possession of drug-abuse instruments and dangerous drugs. Reynolds, who also was wanted on a bench warrant, had three needles, a spoon with burn marks common in drug use and a suspected crack-cocaine pipe; in addition, she had 18 over-the-counter medications with no prescription, a report showed.

Theft: A Mineral Ridge woman reported she gave a Shadyside Drive woman a $30 deposit as part of an agreement to buy a bed from her, yet never received the item as per terms of the agreement.

Theft: Police charged Anna C. Perez, 67, of Himrod Avenue, Youngstown, with theft. She is accused of stealing three pieces of women’s jewelry from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Feb. 28

Theft: Joanna M. Button, 28, of South Schenley Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of $75 worth of mascara and cosmetics from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Threats: John W. Hager, 58, of Meadowbrook Avenue, Boardman, was charged with making domestic-violence threats after a family member alleged Hager had threatened to punch her during a heated argument.

Arrest: Police in the 500 block of East Midlothian Boulevard pulled over and arrested Steven A. Garland, 39, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of identity theft and receiving stolen property, both felonies, and obstructing official business, a misdemeanor. Garland, who had given a false name, also was in a vehicle with a stolen license plate, authorities alleged.

Menacing: A worker for a Doral Drive big-box store told police a man threatened to beat him up when the accuser asked him to leave after he and another man reportedly had shouted obscenities.

Theft: A woman reportedly took a wig and a hat from Hair Depot, 4026 Market St.

Possible theft: A Green Glen Drive woman reported her wallet lost or stolen.

Theft: David J. Kostik of East Manor Avenue, Struthers, was charged with theft and possession of criminal tools after two pocket knives and fishing lures were stolen from Walmart. The 20-year-old Kostik also used a knife to cut open the packages, authorities said.

March 1

Arrest: Officers answered a call regarding a possible fight in the 600 block of Boardman-Canfield Road, where they took 41-year-old William M. Tusai Sr. into custody. Tusai, of Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, was wanted on an Ashtabula County warrant accusing him of failing to pay court-ordered child support.

Theft: Lee W. Gustafson, 33, of South Avenue, Boardman, was charged with stealing about $11.55 worth of food items from Walmart. He also was wanted on a Struthers warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft by deception: Officers picked up 20-year-old Jacob O. Rosa at his Glenwood Avenue apartment on a theft-by-deception charge. The Boardman man was accused of fraudulently obtaining gift cards on three occasions while an employee with the J.C. Penney store.

Domestic violence: Amy J. Evans, 36, of West Boulevard, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her sister alleged Evans had grabbed and scratched her during an argument while the accuser was in a vehicle. The victim had several large scratches on her chest.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a car in the 5200 block of West Boulevard.

Arrest: Officers took Mary K. Mirich into custody at her Glenwood Avenue apartment. The 40-year-old Boardman woman was wanted on a Struthers warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Theft: A Poland woman reported her wallet stolen from her purse while at a Doral Drive store.
