Source of bad smell eludes officials in Louisville, Ky.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.
There’s a bad smell in parts of the Louisville, Kentucky, area but nobody knows where it’s coming from.
Media reports say city crews have been trying for nearly a week to pin down the odor that smells like mildew, but so far they’ve had no luck.
Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District spokesman Tom Nord says the agency is doing its best to track the odor. Engineering manager Matt King says crews are driving around the city and searching the old-fashion way: with their noses.
Nord says dozens of people have called from different areas of the city that normally aren’t associated with bad smells.
He says the agency doesn’t think the smell is toxic.
Woman knocked out in Seattle ‘drive-by egging’
SEATTLE
Seattle police say a woman was knocked unconscious when she was pelted by an egg in a so-called drive-by egging.
Detective Patrick Michaud says the egg hit the woman right behind the ear and knocked her out last Tuesday.
Her friends caught her before she fell to the ground and drove her to a local hospital.
Police say the woman and her friends were standing outside a bar in the Crown Hill neighborhood when someone in a passing truck threw a volley of eggs at them.
An employee of the bar also was hit in the egging.
Michaud said Thursday that he didn’t know her condition.
Witnesses described the truck as a small black or green pickup with a canopy and dark-tinted windows.
S. California beach turned white by hail from storm
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.
The beach at Southern California’s “Surf City” was turned white by a dumping of hail from a fast-moving storm.
The National Weather Service says at least an inch of icy pellets coated the sand at Huntington Beach after the system roared ashore Monday morning.
Brianna Burkhart, who works at Duke’s restaurant on the city pier, says the sky suddenly turned dark and then opened up.
She says when it was all over, the beach was completely white and it looked like it had snowed.
It’s the second winter storm to hit the area in several days. Over the weekend, a smattering of hail was reported to the north on Venice Beach.
Plane pilots reported seeing funnel clouds over the ocean about 25 miles off Redondo Beach.
