Mount Union wins record 34th indoor title
COLUMBUS
Mount Union men’s indoor track and field team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, won its record 34th overall and third straight Ohio Athletic Conference Championship at The Capital Center at Capital University on Saturday.
Seniors Tyler Mettille (Canfield) and Sean Donnelly repeated as OAC Outstanding Sprint and OAC Outstanding Field Athlete honors.
Mettille bested his own confernece record in winning the 200 meters. He also won titles in the 500 meters and as part of the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams along with freshman Tyler Neff, junior Tyler Sparks and senior Chase Swisher.
Other event winners for Mount Union were Gerardo Vargas in the pole vault, Andrew Milhoan in the 60 meter hurdles, Alex Wilson in the 5,000 meters, Zach Wukotich (Salem) in the high jump, Dustin Matak (Salem) in the 60 meter dash and the distance medley relay team of seniors Wade Clark, Garrett Swisher, Dan McGearyand Sparks.
Fitch grad Gerberry joins WVU staff
YOUNGSTOWN
Austintown Fitch High graduate Dan Gerberry will be a graduate assistant at West Virginia, where he will coach tight ends.
Gerberry began his coaching career last fall as YSU’s tight ends coach. After a standout career as an offensive lineman at Ball State, he spent four years with the Detroit Lions (2009-2012) before getting cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars before the 2013 season.
NHL Network to air USHL all-access show

The United States Hockey League has partnered with the NHL Network for the exclusive premiere of USHL All Access at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
It takes a behind the scenes look at the 2015 USHL/NHL top prospects game last month. For two days, cameras captured the sights and sounds as the players ascended on Dubuque, Iowa to compete in the event.
Among the focus are forwards Kyle Connor of the Youngstown Phantoms and Waterloo Black Hawks teammates Brock Boeser and Tom Novak, all of whom have been tabbed by NHL Central Scouting as potential first-round picks in the NHL Draft. The show also captures the thrilling story of Kevin Conley, the Youngstown Phantoms forward who went from a last-minute replacement in the event to becoming one of the game MVP’s.
Jordan joins Forbes’ billionaire list

Michael Jordan and two other NBA owners have joined Forbes’ annual list of the world’s billionaires.
Forbes released its list of billionaires on Monday and noted that Jordan’s net worth is estimated at $1 billion, thanks to his well-timed investment in the Charlotte Hornets.
Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, with a net worth of $1.6 billion, and the Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf, worth $1.3 billion, also made the list. The net worth of NBA franchise values increased this past year after the sale of Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.
The 52-year-old Jordan, a Hall of Fame player who won six NBA championships with the Bulls, reached billionaire status last June, according to the magazine. This is his first year on Forbes’ annual list which typically is released in March.
Winners from Mill Creek Distance Classic
The Youngstown Road Runners Club held the 26th Annual Mill Creek Distance Classic on Sunday.
A total of 204 runners finished the half marathon with Dan Dygert of Linesville, Pa. taking first overall. Leslie Kramer of Slippery Rock, Pa. was the top woman finisher. In the 5k race, Devin Walsh of Beaver Falls, Pa. was took first and Jenna Evans of McDonald was the top woman. Full results can be viewed at smileymiles.com.
