Meacham on the job as Mahoning County auditor

YOUNGSTOWN

Ralph T. Meacham arrived at 7:50 a.m. today to begin work as Mahoning County auditor.

Letterhead envelopes and business cards bearing his name had already been printed, identifying him as “Ralph T. Meacham, CPA, Mahoning County Auditor,” and some of the envelopes were already stuffed and addressed for a mailing.

Following a delayed return from a European vacation due to an East Coast winter storm, Meacham was sworn in as acting auditor Monday evening at the New Waterford residence of Judge Carol Robb of the 7th District Court of Appeals, who he said will swear him in at 5:15 p.m. today in the county courthouse rotunda for his full four-year term that will begin next Monday.

Last Thursday, the county commissioners appointed Meacham as acting auditor after a three-judge panel suspended Michael V. Sciortino based on the allegations against Sciortino in the Oakhill Rennaisance Place criminal conspiracy case.

Meacham unseated Sciortino in the November election.

After going sleepless for two days during his weather-delayed return from his vacation, Meacham said he slept a mere five hours Monday night.

“I feel quite well, thank you. I think I was running on adrenalin for the last two days and probably am, to an extent, right now, but I’m feeling pretty good and really anxious to get started,” he told a reporter shortly after his arrival.
