‘Communiversity’ forum set Saturday

The NAACP Youngstown Chapter will host a “Communiversity Symposium II-Educating To Empower Students, Parents, Families and Community: Focusing on What Works,” at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at McGuffey Center, 1649 Jacobs Road.
Presenters will include a national and local panel. The national panel will include Harry Lawson, associate director of the Human and Civil Rights Department at the National Education Association, and Dwanna Nicole, senior policy advocate for the Advancement Project.
Local panelists are the Rev. Willie Peterson, pastor of NewBirth Kimmelbrook Baptist Church and an assistant professor at Youngstown State University; Jackie Adair, a Youngstown school board member; Rev. Henry McNeil, a former president of the Baptist Pastors Council; and L.K. Williams, a retired teacher and chairwoman of the NAACP Youth Committee.
Warriors seek help
YOUNGSTOWN
Warriors Inc., 2733 Market St., needs volunteers on various committees for its 11th annual “Unity in the Community” parade and rummage sale fundraiser.
The organization will host a volunteer meeting at 10:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Friday. Interested parties and groups that hope to volunteer for Warriors should attend the meeting or contact Wendy Robinson at 330-783-5440.
Purple Cat seeks space in Struthers
STRUTHERS
A public hearing of Struthers City Council’s annexation, zoning and industrial business committee will take place 5 p.m. April 1 in council chambers at the municipal building, 6 Elm St.
The hearing is about a zoning request for the building at 275 Wilson St., Struthers, to be changed from a Residential A to Residential C-1.
Tiny Tots Development Center has moved out of the building, and the Purple Cat would like to use the building to provide housing for people with disabilities.
Tod Cemetery cleanup is March 15
YOUNGSTOWN
Tod Homestead Cemetery’s, 2200 Belmont Ave., annual cleanup will occur March 15. All decorations on the graves, including solar and artificial lights in cemetery vases, will be removed at this time. Anyone who wishes to recover their decorations must do so before March 15.
