Tressell to speak at JCafe event

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel will be the JCafe series speaker at noon March 26 at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane. The public is invited.

Tressel became the ninth president of the university on July 1, 2014. He was previously the executive vice president of student success at the University of Akron, and before that he was the head football coach at both Ohio and Youngstown state universities.

Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for nonmembers before March 23 and $12 after that. The cost includes lunch and a concert. For information contact Darlene Muller at 330-746-3250 ext. 106.

Basket raffle to help rescue dogs

Legacy Dog Rescue & Youngstown Dogs — Surviving the Streets will present a Luck of the Irish Basket Raffle from noon to 4 p.m. March 14 at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road.

Proceeds will help Legacy Dog Rescue, a local nonprofit group, save and rehabilitate dogs and place them into loving homes, as well as Youngstown Dogs — Surviving the Streets continue to help the dogs that need it most.

Head-shaving event to help fight cancer

AUSTINTOWN

A local team of volunteers will host a fundraising event from noon to 6 p.m. March 14 at O’Donald’s Irish Pub & Grill, 6000 Mahoning Ave., for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.

More than two dozen men, women and children are expected to shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to conquer childhood cancers.
