4 Mahoning Valley teachers earn grants

COLUMBUS — Teachers at four Mahoning Valley schools earned participation grants from Believe in Ohio, a science, technology, education and mathematics student-entrepreneurship program of The Ohio Academy of Science funded by the Ohio General Assembly.

The grant money will be used so students can participate for cash awards and scholarships to Ohio colleges and universities.

“Believe in Ohio is the only statewide Ohio student STEM education program to integrate entrepreneurship and innovation as pathways to create future jobs,” said Lynn Elfner, CEO Emeritus of The Ohio Academy of Science and co-director of Believe in Ohio.

The program develops Ohio’s next generation of innovators to create jobs through the application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to innovate new products and services.

Teachers who are receiving grants:

• Tom Slaven, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

• Susan Dunn, Springfield High School.

• Rachel Young, Trumbull Career and Technical Center.

• Pamela Lubich, Youngstown Chaney Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program.
