Police: Drugs found during traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN

Police found small amounts of suspected heroin, cocaine and marijuana on a man who was a passenger in a car pulled over about 10:35 p.m. Sunday for driving without headlights on.

Carl Thurston, 31, of Linden Avenue, was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The car was pulled over on Indiana Avenue.

Reports said the heroin and marijuana were found under the seat where Thurston was sitting, and just before he was handcuffed, he dropped a bag with suspected cocaine on the ground.

The driver was given a citation for driving without headlights on and also a warning for not wearing a seat belt, reports said.

Ryan asks Brazilian president to return suspect to US

WASHINGTON

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, is asking Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, who is visiting the U.S. this week, to return a suspect, a Brazil native, wanted in a 2007 Newton Falls murder case, he said in a release.

“If President Rousseff is looking to do business with the United States, we need to look for assurance that Brazil will be a real trading partner and not harbor criminals who commit crimes against American citizens,” he said.

“The Hoerig family has waited over eight years for justice to be done. I will continue this fight, and President Rousseff needs to know that we will not rest until Claudia Hoerig is returned to stand trial,” he said of the suspect accused of killing her husband, Karl.
